Safe Arrival and Getting Started

After a long and thankfully uneventful flight I finally reached Kathmandu, I was picked up by Vishu and Pradip from SDSS and travelled through the city to the Kathmandu International Study Centre (KISC) guesthouse, which will be my home during my stay in Nepal. Due to my early arrival, I met everyone leaving on their way to work and was left to get some rest until later when we all went out to dinner to a local restaurant.

I attended church at SD the following day, the joyful atmosphere made up for my lack of understanding of Nepali. It was wonderful to finally meet Bikash and his parents and have a chance to discuss the plans for my stay. These included the design of a roof extension of the current building and coming up with a system to make the top floor wheelchair accessible. Since then I have been working on the design of the extension using the knowledge gained from my civil engineering course.

Aside from work, I’ve gotten to know the people staying here, mainly teachers working at KISC and other local schools. They have been helping me find my way around the city as well as inviting me to go visit local attractions during my free time.
