Our arrival at Arua Archdeaconry was heralded with the usual singing and dancing by the local Mothers’ Union members. This time we joined in, waving flowers. After light refreshments and the obligatory signing of the visitors’ book we all danced off, Uganda-style, into the church.

Worship began with joyful singing and greetings were given by representatives of the MU branches, the Diocesan President and the Archdeacon. During the service we shared our stories and Rev. Carmen gave the address. She spoke about Jesus’ encounter with the Samaritan woman at the well and told the congregation how much Jesus loves women and how important they are. Like the Samaritan woman, we must ‘come, see and go tell.’ After a time of fellowship we reluctantly said our goodbyes.

Later that evening, we had the pleasure of visiting the den Breejen’s in their home. Art and Geesje, CMSI Mission Partners, have been a great support to the team throughout our stay. We enjoyed freshly ground local coffee and homemade banana bread, and their delightful children: Anne Fleur, Jan Lucas, Ruben and Lisa kept us entertained. It was also an opportunity to purchase beautiful cards created by Arua Homecrafts, an initiative managed by Geesje to boost the income of local women.
