Leaving Belfast, Islamics Course and Christmas

Happy New Year and greetings from Rustington, West Sussex for my last Journey towards Burundi letter. Next month I should be writing from Burundi! Thank you so much to everyone who sent me a card this Christmas. It was such an encouragement to hear from so many friends and people who pray for me.

In my last letter I shared about my need for financial support to help buy a new laptop and second-hand car in Burundi. Praise God, I have already received gifts which paid for a new laptop. I am still hoping to raise enough support to buy a car so if you would like to give towards that please do send a gift. I left Belfast on 5 December; then did the Islamics Course. It was superb with fantastic lecturers and students. It was helpful learning more about Islam incl. what the Qu’rān says about Jesus. We also had lectures on The Uniqueness of Christ (or The Suffering God – by Martin Goldsmith), Spiritual Warfare, Apologetics, Discipling Believers from Muslim Backgrounds and Church Planting. My favourite lecture was a British born Pakistani lady sharing how she came to faith in Christ through RE lessonsin England! Praise God. Even during terrible opposition from her family, the Lord really ustained her with encouragements from His Word. Please pray that God will help me use what I have learned.

Christmas was a really special with my family – it was good to have an extended period of time together.

This month: moving to Burundi on Wednesday 21st

I saw the New Year in at the amazing HTB prayer party. Pete Grieg from 24-7, now also on HTB staff, said, “we’re going to see the rising and falling of many in 2009. What we need is the presence and power of God … and surrendered people”. We must ask for God’s presence and trust God. He encouraged us to enter this year more surrendered to Jesus than ever before; whatever is going to happen to walk with Him. 270 years ago the Wesley’s met with a few others to pray in the New Year. At 3 am the Holy Spirit fell and after that John Wesley was catapulted into preaching all over the British Isles in a time of terrible social problems and the Great Awakening happened.

I am so conscious of my desire to live for God yet of fear, pride, greed and other sin. I desperately need God’s help to be who He wants me to be. Pray for God to be preparing my heart. There are many unknowns ahead, not least where will live but it’s making me pray!

I have lots of packing and goodbyes with commissioning services in Belfast and London.

Prayer Pointers:

• Provision of Christian houseshare in Bujumbura and initial visa.
• God’s, strength, protection and anointing as I move to Burundi.
• That the Lord will help me settle in easily to life in Burundi and build strong relationships for His Kingdom there.
• For my retreat (5th-7th) and commissioning services in Belfast (11th) and Brockley (18th) to be
times of meeting with God and being renewed by Him..
• Comfort and hope for my family – that they will come to know Jesus and have peace about me working in Burundi.
• Protection for my brother Andrew who starts a new job this month.
