We rose for 7.30 omelettes which were lovely and got word from Charles (from KCC) that he was presently at airport waiting for morning flight to see if missing baggage was on it. Rewind – Victor and Kathryn didn’t receive their suitcases on board the Thurs morning flight.

We were to go to Matana today but decided we would wait a bit to see how luggage situation turned out. We then met a pastor from Norway who was preaching and travelling his way from Kigali to Southern Burundi who was very interested in our work. Very interesting guy. Charles then informed us the luggage hadn’t arrived so Bobbie & Kathryn & Victor went direct to Kenya Airways office to get some answers however they ultimately didn’t get anywhere and returned.

By this stage it was lunchtime and after some light fruit we got on the road for Matana. We had a lot of difficulty getting petrol which left us slightly late and so we drove quicker. Along the way we stopped at a new development for tourists which was being marketed for conferences etc and should once complete bring some much needed revenue into the area. These were being built by a Ugandan Construction Company and included some modern style apartments as well as some traditional style Ugandan buildings.

Arrived at Matana and stopped off at the school and church briefly before being taken to our accomodation which was lovely and some people were housed within main block, and others were given newly built outside chalets which included en-suite. C’est magnifique. After enquiring about mosquitoes we were told there wasn’t much of a problem up country but if we preferred they would spray our rooms for us before we left for dinner, an option which we accepted.

Went around to Diocesan guesthouse for dinner and met Archbishop Bernard for the first time. John was also reaquainted with Vincent who had stayed in Belfast and Donegal with his family. food was then served, following a time of prayer and it was delicious.

Unfortunately none of our mobiles have reception so we can’t communicate too often.

Thanks to all who sent messages but we aren’t receiving texts either!

Tune in for the next exciting installment soon…

Hi, Glad to hear that all is relatively well - just remember it's Africa. Sorry about the missing baggage but it has the advantage that if you are wearing the same clothes every day it helps you to be recognised! As Bobbie will know not getting petrol is usual and driving that way is normal, just wait until it's an unpaved road; by now you probably know what that means for yourselves Keep on keeping on Raymond.
