Greetings from Uganda,
OK so yesterday (sat) we completed our first programme with lots of kids of the hospital staff. It was a great day with lots of singing, dancing and laughing, the banter was at its highest! It was the last day working with the first set of Ugandan leaders. It was sad that it was our last day with them as we have made close friendships with them all.
With an evening of major reflection time on what we had experienced so far we were ready for the prospect of a 2 day break. However sunday morning after a wee lie in (well… half an hour longer than usual) we all split into 3 groups and went off on our last ‘on duty’ activity for next couple of days. We all headed out to three different rural churches in the local area. Myself and laura went to Kigosa Church (Church of Uganda) and had a great experience with our group. We took control of a large part of the service with singing, giving testimonies and reading bible passages. The congregation took in what we had to say very well and afterwards we had a lunch of Ugandan delights which was an… interesting experience to say the least.
After saying out farewells we headed back to the hospital to get ready for the epic events of the afternoon. One being that AP bought a chicken in the auction at his church. In churches if someone does not have enough money for collection, they will bring, livestock or food that is given in and auctioned off. So now we have Lawrence Featherman roaming around the training centre where we are staying. The other being that a load of us joined some of our ugandan leaders to play a football match against the Kiwoko hospital team. Our kits were very dapper, but our football couldn’t be described as the same. After being 3-0 down at half time (and us having missed a penalty in the first min) we started a come back in the second half, however we couldn’t summon the spirit of Istanbul with a magical fight back, and ended up loosing 4-1, the result probably being a fair one after being out run and fitness levels being very unevenly matched. We are now just all chilling back at camp excited about heading into Kampala tomorrow (mon) with a wee bit of shopping and swimming on the cards.
all our love and best wishes
