After a wonderful week in Nairobi, the blue team made the long journey to Oltiaskia. During that week, we had seen a lot of amazing things. We were given a tour of the Cathedral at the start of the week and I think everyone was blown away by the sheer beauty of the buildings!
In the Primary School in UDP, we painted the teachers’ staff room cream and the finished product was just so different- it’s amazing what a lick of paint can do! On Wednesday morning, we were lucky enough to be part of the community meeting were the ‘top’ community members met to give money into the community. Some money was given to aid education and other funds were provided to help with medical care. The meeting was held on the top of a 2-storey building which was pretty scary for us Western folks!
We also sanded and painted the desks from the Standard 7 room, which made such a difference to the dull classrooms and the children loved them. On Friday, we were given such a heartfelt goodbye from the whole school and I think it’s safe to say that every member of the blue team was sad to leave. Friday afternoon saw the red team arrive and we swapped stories and gave hints to “survive” the following week. The blue team were very sad to leave Nairobi but there was a bit of anticipation to what lay ahead.
