Well, were chased out and all very much alive. The Kiwoko chase happened last Saturday and was a great success. The vision behind it was twofold firstly to have a fun day for the hospital. We had the 16 km race in the morning and then had games and a roasted cow afterwards. Staff and students had a great time we will be talking about this for weeks to come. The other purpose was to fundraise some money to meet hospital running costs (pun very much intended there Im afraid). So if you would like to contribute something, email me and let me know.
Dr. Helen, a UK Paediatrician who spent 3 months here earlier in the year, wins the prize for most committed fundraiser not only did she raise a huge amount of money, but she flew out for a long weekend to run the race and catch up with people again.
The race was won by Lasto, one of our theatre assistants. He managed to run the 10 miles in 57 minutes!!! Pretty impressive. Ken and myself didnt quite manage that, but we were close(ish). I got inside my 100 minutes target, with a time of 1 hour and 38 mins and Ken did it in. Well actually Ill let Ken tell you hes very proud. Check his blog for his time! The run was not as painful as I had anticipated, in fact at points it was almost enjoyable. There were crowds of people along the route, who either looked perplexed at why anyone would want to run all that way, or else were cheering us along. The next plan is to do the 10km run that is part of the Kampala Marathon next month.. so the training continues.. thankfully, though, Ken has come to his senses and realised that a run after work at 5.30 pm is much more pleasant that 6.30 am.. I was very decent and helped him come to that decision
Thanks for all the mails and messages of support!
