One down, two to go (1.08.08)

Apologies for the lack of blog updates this week. The team have been flat out, working on the playground outside ABBS and with the kids inside. I have also been flat out, or more accurately, ‘laid low’ by a bout of the old lurgy.

Most of those who had been ill on the team have returned to good health but please continue to pray for Stephen H, who hasn’t managed to shift the bug that’s upsetting his belly. And remember Cherith, who fell and hurt her knee today. She is more concerned by how it might restrict her involvement in the programme than the pain itself – but pray for both these things.

I’ve been hugely impressed by the work that the team have done this week. An area of waste ground on the HDCS site has been transformed into a pukka playground. There is a lovely white fence and a pretty impressive pergola (with every wooden post and beam cut, shaped and painted by ‘the outsiders’, despite the limited tools), a new path (which is almost complete, thanks to the singlemindedness of Sam) and various bits of play apparatus around a tellytubbies-style grassy knoll. Ture was painting some colourful shapes today on the roughest wall you can imagine (“It’s like painting a beach”, remarked our Swedish joker). But the work by ‘the insiders’ alongside the staff and children of ABBS has also been fantastic – creativity, love and patience have all been in abundance.

This evening, we will be enjoying a ‘chips and movie’ night – I think we will be watching the Batman movie in English. Maybe a little dark for a CMSI META, but it’s got to better than a Bollywood caper. Tomorrow, Nepali church and shopping (great).

Hopefully, one or two of the team will update this blog over the weekend. But for now, be assured that week 1 has gone well and the team are being blessed and being a blessing.

Thanks for reading,

Roger
