Greetings from a sweaty, dusty, fume-filled Kampala. I believe that storms are the order of the day in the British Isles at present, but Im not sure that Kampala is much of an improvement!
It has indeed been good to be back at Kiwoko. Our doctors have significantly increased in numbers 2 Ugandans Daniel and John, with us for six months at least, and two Scots David, a retired GP from Aberdeen with us until the end of December, and Alison, from Stirling, a little younger, with us until February en route for General Practice. It is good to have extra hands, and even better that they are pleasant folk with whom it is good to be forming a team.
The hospital board is due to meet in less than 2 weeks, so we have a busy few weeks of various committees. Please pray for wisdom as we are due to make some significant decisions at some of these meetings.
With more doctors there is a realistic possibility of me being involved in more planning, training and development rather than spending all day treating patients. This is good for the development of the hospital and because I miss the patients and clinical medicine, means that I am almost looking forward to my nights on call!
The rains are reported to be continuing into January which is great news for the crops and water supplies, but bad news for the mosquito-borne diseases which form the bulk of the local disease burden.
Was greatly challenged by the sermon in church this morning about Gods heart for the poor. A difficult topic for the poor preacher to a congregation full of people whos very presence testifies to a belief in its importance. An interesting reflection on how Jesus spent a disproportionate amount of His time with the poor and destitute. A great challenging encouragement the conclusion love Jesus and do what you want.
Thanks for reading. Hope you’re doing well. Enjoy loving Jesus this week.
Rory.
