Greetings from hot Uganda.
Just for a change it has been too long since I visited the blogg. Sorry.
Just for a change I shall cite busyness as the reason.
Its a month since I have been in Kampala with adequate bandwidth to try uploading. With Dr Raul on leave, it was a bad time for Dr Peter to fall sick. Hes been off for a month now. We would have been completely stuck had Dr Steve (surgeon from Edinburgh) not arrived with Dr Mairi (paediatrician from Newcastle) 2 weeks previously. They have both fitted in quickly and are a real asset to the team already.
We had a visit from Hamilton Rd Presbyterian church for the pastors conference. It was a great week. Jim and Margaret McAnlis brought Rev David Johnston and John and Pamela McDowell. It was good to have them sharing in staff worship as well as the conference itself. We also officially opened stage I of our pharmacy redevelopment our sterilization unit for production of IV fluids and sterilising instruments built with funds raised by Hamilton Road by participating in the Belfast marathon last year.
Clinically I have had an interesting few weeks: A boy with blood pressure higher than the machine could read (300 mmHg) who has been fitting Neonatal tetanus, leukaemia, congenital syphilis, abdominal spear wounds, panga amputation of thumb
All the sort of things being a GP in Ballyholme prepares one for.
Apart from clinical work there hasnt been so much time for other things this month. I planted a few seeds in the front flowerbed because as its still raining and also warm I though I might as well make the most of it.
Showed pole to pole (or most of it, until the power went off) by David Attenborough in the dining room a few weeks ago the children were fairly amazed by the animals on display.
By bicycle career has been impeded by pain in my thenar eminence after cycling. Extra padding to the handlebar grip doesnt seem to have resolved the situation as yet so will have to engage greater technology.
Hope all well in your world if you have taken the time to read this far. Please pray for a full and rapid recovery for Peter. Cheers as ever Rory
