Greetings from the Rwanda team 2010!
Well we’ve finally arrived after 24 hours of traveling! And let us say it was eventful. We left Belfast at 1pm on Sunday afternoon and arrived in Rwanda at 9am on Monday morning. That’s almost 24 hours traveling!!!!!
Airports!
The funniest moment of the traveling happened as we were about to board our plane to Nairobi. As we were walking along the walkway to enter the plane Sean and Zoe thought that it would be funny to scare Kirsten and Sam. Little did they know Kirsten and Sam got held up behind a few people, they jumped out on who they thought was Kirsten and Sam, but was actually a complete stranger and we have to say that Sean and Zoe looked more scared than he did! The whole thing was completely hilarious! Though what made it even funnier was that the ‘complete stranger’ decided to hide behind the next corner and wait so that he could scare us which he successfully did!
Plane Journeys!
8 Rwanda Team ways to pass an 8 hour flight.
1. Numerous card games ( do not fight over the rules!)
2. Flick through every film being played and watch every single one.
3. Cover a teammate in tissue and watch the air hostess pick them up.
4. Use and Steal other people’s pillows.
5. Look out for tourist attractions eg. The Effiel Tower.
6. Knock tea and water around yourself and the other passengers.
7. Do not sit within a four seat radius of Craig!
8. Sleep the entire journey.
Arriving in Rwanda
After almost 24 hours of traveling we finally arrived in Kigali, next we had a wait to see if our suitcases had arrived. As we were waiting beside the conveyer belt most of the teams suitcases all arrived together apart from three Sean, Wayne and Kirsten. We were told that our suitcases where most likely still in Nairobi. So as the rest of the team headed to Kibungo three of the team had to stay with Sam and Emmanuel who is from the kibungo diocese. We had a four hour wait so to pass some time we travelled to the town in Kigali and then back to the airport. While we waited in the airport it was a long wait and full of suspense but after Emmanuel talked to around 20 people we were finally allowed to go through and look to see if our suitcases where there which they were!
As us three were waiting for our suitcases the rest of the team began the journey to Kibungo. It was definitely an experience trying to fit 10 people and their luggage into a matato (small mini bus) but eventually everyone arrived safely to our guesthouses in Kibungo and started to get settled in.
To date over the last two and a half days we have been doing a lot of prep in the form of dramas and songs so that we are prepared when we attend the youth camp that we will be leading which should be great!
Funny quotes from the team
Bethan – The name roo reminds me of a Giraffe
Bethan – You would think that the ketchup would be bigger than the sauce.
Zoe – The cow only has one teet ( it was a bull)
Stephanie – Is the President not Ghandi?
