College carpenters seem to be getting busier and busier at the Yei Vocational Training College and the demand is growing for its niche item – the three seater mahogany school desk! Last year, the 10 College carpenters made over two hundred school desks for delivery to Primary Schools in Juba, over 100 miles away. This year, the carpenters have made 200 desks for UMCOR and 45 desks each for the new schools at Payawa and Mongo, both the latter being funded by churches in Ireland. Its latest order has come from the Danish Refugee Council which has ordered a total of 240 desks for its new schools in Morobo County.

John commented: “This is really good news for the College and a vote of confidence in the staff. The carpenters have worked hard to improve the finish of the desks and this has been appreciated by our customers. The new workshop has been a tremendous help as we can safely complete and store the desks under cover until they are needed, instead of keeping them under mango trees as we used to.”
