Last week, Poppy and I were delighted to visit Maridi Diocese, to see how two CMS Ireland funded projects had progressed.

The first project we visited was the refurbished Diocesan clinic, which was now well painted, tiled and had electricity and running water. The site has been fenced and a new hut has been provided for the security guard. “I was delighted to see the improvements to the clinic. The consulting rooms and pharmacy were very tidy and welcoming. There is a wide veranda and patients can shelter from both rain and sun while they wait to be seen or for a test result,” said CMS Ireland associate, Poppy Spens.

We then moved on to see six new classrooms that had been provided for the church primary school, three of which were funded by CMS Ireland. A dedication ceremony was led by Bishop Justin Badi and then John Spens was invited to say a few words. 20 minutes later, he was still on his feet speaking and as he ended he said that he hoped that on his next visit to Maridi, he would be able to attend the opening of the final block of 2 classrooms and offices. No funding is yet available for this but John encouraged the community to keep on praying for funding so that the school can be properly finished.
