Recently I’ve been thinking a fair bit about what it means to “be church” and specifically to “be part of a church”.

It is, I admit, a pretty foundational issue for someone engaged in mission – but one that I can honestly say still leaves with me with lots of questions.

I often use the quote, “It’s not the church of God that has a mission but the God of mission who has a church”…and I believe that…it’s just that sometimes ‘church’ (as we live it and express it) can be difficult.

As I’ve been thinking and reading I stumbled across the latest edition of emergingchurch.info which asks some pretty big questions, from some key thinkers, about trends in the emerging church/fresh expressions world…definitely worth a look. For me, the piece by Mark Sayers raised a few thoughts that resonate pretty loudly…
