Revolution Road: The Church's Response to the Arab Spring - with Archbishop Mouneer Anis, St Mark's Parish Halls (Church Street, Newtownards) at 7.30pm

Thursday, 17 November 2011

Many of you will have followed the unfolding drama across North Africa and the Middle East earlier in the year in what has become known as the ‘Arab Spring’. We have witnessed revolutions in Tunisia and Egypt, civil war in Libya and varying degrees of uprisings and protests in many other countries.

In Egypt, walls and pillars all over Cairo are painted in the colours of the national flag – red, white and black – and are emblazoned with the number 25, representing the first day (25 January 2011) of the Youth Revolution, as it is known.

An Egypt Focus Event

On Thursday 17th November, we will be able to hear first-hand of the various ways in which the Church has responded to the Arab Spring.

CMS Ireland and St Mark’s Parish (Newtownards) are hosting a special event with Dr Mouneer Anis, the Archbishop of Jerusalem and the Middle East and Bishop of the Diocese of Egypt.

Egypt Focus Event: St Mark’s Parish Halls, Church Street, Newtownards at 7.30pm on Thursday 17th November 2011.

Please join us for this very special event to hear the Archbishop share:

- how the Church continues to practically support the poorest and most vulnerable communities in the aftermath of the revolution

- about his meetings with the military, senior politicians and religious authorities to discuss the future of a new more democratic government

- a brief update on the recent tragic events in Cairo.

(Directions to St Mark’s Parish Halls are noted below.)

Other Speaking Dates

You are also invited to hear Archbishop Mouneer speak on Sunday 20th November at:

- Hillsborough Parish at 10am and 11.30am

- Kilmore Parish Church, Crossgar at 7pm.

Please encourage those in your parish, your friends, family and work colleagues to come along to one of these important CMS Ireland events.
