Summer Holiday...Not a Chance...

July and August are shaping up to be two of CMS Ireland’s busiest months – and there’s not a beach ball or sun lounger in sight!

In the next two months: almost 100 people will be taking part in teams to Nepal, Egypt, Uganda, Rwanda and Kenya; we have short-term placements in Zambia and Uganda; and a host of volunteers will descend on Belfast and Dublin for ‘Summer Madness’ and ‘Urban Soul’.

So if you want to play your part in what’s going on then get praying for the teams, individuals and churches who’ll be working with CMS Ireland this summer…

Please pray for:

Summer Madness: CMS Ireland are launching a new venue at Ireland’s largest Christian Youth Festival. The ‘Global Pavilion’ will help give visitors an insight to cross cultural mission around the world – with a particular focus on education in Africa, healthcare in Asia and social justice in Europe. Throw an Asian tea house, an Africa Coffee house, a performance venue, drumming workshops, prayer walls and mural painting into the mix and you get a rough idea what this new venue will look like! Please pray for all the staff and volunteers taking part – especially Julie and Regional Mission Partner Team as they look to inspire people to play their part in God’s global story. Pray that the venue would provide openings for meaningful conversations and that young people from all across Ireland would be challenged to get involved with what God is doing in His world. You can find out a bit more about the festival here.

Urban Soul: This is the first year of the Urban Soul programme in Dublin and CMS Ireland are delighted to be one of the partners helping to demonstrate ‘indiscriminate acts of kindness’ to the people of Ireland’s capital city. Through Urban Soul we want to see the love of Christ lived out, in practical ways, to the people of the Greater Dublin area. Pray for all the volunteers and team leaders who will be taking part in the community outreach programmes and for James Price and Julie Currie as they help facilitate the ‘after hours’ programme. Pray that the people of Dublin would experience faith in fresh ways. You can find out a bit more about how we’ll be involved with Urban Soul here.

Teams: Throughout July and August almost 100 people from more that 15 churches will spend up to a month working alongside CMS Ireland’s partners in Africa and Asia. The teams will take part in a variety of activities that include: working with a church for people with disabilities in Nepal; running a holiday bible club for children with HIV in Uganda; helping build a school in Kenya; and running a diocesan youth camp in Rwanda. Pray for the safety of the teams as they travel and ask that the impact of their experiences would help bring transformation to the lives of those involved and the communities in which they will be working.

Short-Term Volunteers: Rachel McCartney and Robert Ferris will spend the next few months working with our partners in Uganda and Zambia. Pray that, during their time, they would make a valuable contribution to the ministry of our partners in Kiwoko and Kitwe. Pray that they lessons they learn can be brought home with them and put to life in the work of the church here in Ireland. Pray also for the Mission Partners and Global Partners who will be looking after our volunteers, that they would have wisdom and insight as they guide those experiences.

If you would like to explore opportunities to get involved in any of these areas in the future please get in touch – we would be delighted to hear from you.
