This Sunday, 24th August, CMS Ireland will be leading the morning worship on RTE Television. The programme will go out live at 11am and will include a focus on the life-changing impact of the Society’s work in Southern Sudan.
The service will be led by Canon Cecil Wilson – who during his time as General Secretary of CMS Ireland was a frequent visitor to Sudan – and will feature input from Delgany and Kill O’ the Grange parishes in Dublin. Over the past three years both of these parishes have worked tirelessly, in partnership with the church in Yei Diocese, to build a new Primary School in the village of Payawa.
Canon Wilson explains the significance of such an initiative, saying, “After more than 30 years of turmoil in Southern Sudan, where everything was destroyed, education is now seen as one of the top priorities of the Church.”
David Gough, Regional Mission Partner for Northern and Central Africa, agrees, “For our partners in Yei Diocese, education is an important way to demonstrate the love of Christ in action. It’s been wonderful that the Church in Ireland has had the chance to play its part – to respond, with generous hearts, to the needs of our brothers and sisters in Christ. This service is a fantastic opportunity to share something of what God’s people have been able to do by working in partnership with each other – and to celebrate that in the context of worship.”
Worship during the service will be led by St Paul’s Youth Choir in Belfast.
