Reaching Out...

Today I went to an Internally Displaced Peoples’ (IDP) Camp near Lainya, about 35 miles from Yei. A small village had fled from the LRA about 6 months ago and have set up camp near Lainya. They have no health care and little food. They have made temporary houses with tarpaulins for the roof. It is thought there are 300 people there. There were many children of whom several were malnourished, as well as many pregnant women.

We are hoping to set up an outreach from Martha clinic in Yei to make weekly visits, which we plan will be taken on by the new health facility being built in Lainya later in the year. Our initial idea is to go out next week and offer a teaching session to include malaria bednet distribution to under 5s and pregnant women. Some of the staff at Martha Clinic are volunteering to go out on Saturdays to offer a health service to the people living in the IDP camp.
