Reunions, Visa, Church, FNL join Burundi army ...

Wonderfully, I have just received my 2 year Visa D’Etablissment without having to pay any ‘extra’ fees.

The final rebel group, the FNL, has now joined the army and the country is looking towards the next elections in 2010.

This month, as well as language study, I am helping host the YWAM Belfast team here and my friend Sheron from Brockley Church and Kenya is visiting for Easter!

An update from Bishop Justin in Maridi

In the aftermath of weeks of rebel incursions by the Lord’s Resistance Army, Bishop Justin reports that there is relative calm in Maridi town. Meanwhile, the daily struggle for survival continues for 10,000 displaced people in temporary shelters in Maridi, fearing a return to their homes.

God is Able...

When Bishop Joel Obetia spoke to a group of CMS Ireland’s members in Belfast recently his message was clear, “God is able!”

Bishop Joel, from Madi West Nile Diocese in Uganda, was addressing CMS Ireland staff and supporters during a visit to Ireland, which included a week long programme in Armagh Diocese. He was keen to stress that, despite challenges and difficulties, “God is at work through His church.”

Time is marching on....

An awful pun…but so very true! In the past week the sky has been overcast and some thunder/lightening and much needed rain came on wednesday night…supposedly marking the end of winter and the start of increasing temperatures – so what I am to do now with the wooly hats and and jumpers I came with!! Life has settled into a “normal” routine here…but I have been pondering if that is a good thing…

Thank you Lord: new house and car

The ‘Unreported World’ stuff is usually excellent. Tonight they’re showing a piece on LRA activity in DR Congo. I haven’t seen it yet and I don’t think it’s a repeat. Probably worth a watch for anyone interested in Central Africa. Here’s the link to the Channel 4 webpage about it…

Madula's harrowing experience at the hands of the LRA

Unfortunately, Madula’s story is not uncommon for the rural population of Western Equatoria, Southern Sudan, where the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) are free to roam from their bases deep in the bush along the DR Congo border.
