- Trip from airport to Hotel was an experience and we got to see many workers along the way on their varied forms of transport and harvesting the many different types of crops being grown including sweetcorn, rice and flax, possibly.
- We arrived at the Pacific Hotel, Bujumbura at approx midday 16th July (slight change from the original destination of KCC, as despite dry season it had some water problems – suspected burst pipe).
- We each were given our own room, own bed inclusive of mossie net (this should come in useful later).
- The hotel staff took our dinner order from us at this point and we agreed a time of 5pm.
- After catching some much needed beauty sleep, we all met up for dinner.
- Before dinner arrived we had an unexpected guest in the form of Rosemary Cottingham (secretary to Archbishop Bernard).
- Dinner was extremely punctual and included a selection of dishes including freshly caught fish from the Great Lake Tanganyika, a couple of half chickens and spag bolognese.
- According to Rosemary, Bujumbura not that big of a city and takes approx 7 mins to navigate from one end to the other. Traffic situation is exciting to say the least. Also Bujumbura would be situated in the lowest part of the country at the lake edge and consequently experiences the highest temperatures generally .
- Rooms are very nicely laid out, however with so many of the fairer sex in the group, warm water for the guys was limited!!!
We’ll be in touch again soon…
