Come pray with us...

Martin Luther King once claimed: “To be a Christian without prayer is no more responsible than to be alive without breathing.” As a Christian mission organisation, prayer is at the centre of CMS Ireland’s life and work.

If we want to be effective in our engagement with mission, then we need to begin not with our ‘giving’, nor indeed our ‘going’, but by seeking the heart of God – understanding His priorities and passions, bringing our thanks, our praise and our requests before Him in prayer.

This autumn we are inviting all friends of CMS Ireland to join with us as we keep prayer at the centre of CMS Ireland.

Beginning in September, we are launching two new monthly prayer meetings – one in Dublin (on Tuesdays) and one in Belfast (on Mondays). These are exciting opportunities for us to come together throughout the year to pray for CMS Ireland and for our partners around the world. These gatherings will take place in CMS Ireland’s offices in Dublin and Belfast. We hope that they will provide a regular space for members, supporters, clergy and parish representatives to gather, to seek God’s leading and to intercede on behalf of the World Church.

Speaking about the new initiative, Brian Lavery, Acting Director of Mission said: “Prayer is the bedrock of everything we do in CMS Ireland. We would love to see our members and supporters join us, as we put the focus on prayer in the year ahead.”

Our first two prayer events will take place at 7:30pm on Monday 7th September (Belfast office) and Tuesday 8th September (Dublin office). Please see the autumn issue of inMission and check our website for future prayer event dates.

We realise that many of our friends and supporters live too far from Dublin or Belfast to be able to attend these events, but the God of prayer isn’t bound by geography. We would therefore encourage you to pray with us on those evenings, wherever you happen to be. You may like to use this simple prayer, which we will use on the two evenings in September.

We look forward to praying with you….

Almighty God,

We come humbly before you, acknowledging your great power, mercy and love. Hear our prayer.

Father of all nations, we thank you that we are united as your family with our brothers and sisters across the world. Bless these relationships, remain at the centre of them. May they be based on your values and pleasing to your ways.
Your will be done.

We thank you for the honour of serving you through spreading the news of your great love. May all that we do would bring glory to Your Holy name.
Your will be done.

We pray for the Board of Trustees, the staff and the volunteers of CMS Ireland. Grant them wisdom, inspiration and passion as they seek to follow and serve you in their work with the church in Ireland and with partners across the globe. Reveal your vision for the work of the Society.
Your will be done.

Father, we lift up to you our Global Partners. We pray that they would know clearly the plans you have for them. We give thanks that you are a God who provides and equips us to do your good works. Bless our partnerships with your church throughout the world.
Your will be done.

We remember our Mission Partners, Mission Associates, STEP volunteers and META teams. We give thanks for them and the gifts they bring to the situations where they find themselves. Whether they are at home or further afield, coming or going, may they be reassured that you hold them in your hand. We pray for their health and safety. We pray for blessing on their work and in the relationships they build.
Your will be done.

Heavenly Father, we lift these prayers to you.
May your will be done, on earth, as in heaven.
