Each year CMS Ireland produces a special resource to help children and young people across Ireland to explore what “mission” means and learn more about how God is at work in different places around the world.

This year’s Annual Project focuses on Kiwoko Hospital in Uganda, encouraging Sunday Schools and Parishes across Ireland to get “Hands on!” and giving an the opportunity to learn more about the work of Kiwoko Hospital and life in the local community in Luwero Diocese.

The Hands On! Kiwoko 2010 Resource Pack is bursting with Bible teachings, lesson plans, activity sheets, drama and information about Uganda and Kiwoko Hospital. There is a DVD which accompanies the pack, which tells the story of Damari and her family, showing us what life is like for many Ugandans, and the impact that Kiwoko Hospital is having in the local community. The material provides an insight into the lives of the local people and shows how we can help Kiwoko Hospital make a real difference.

CMS Ireland’s Youth and Children’s Coordinator Julie Currie, with the help of some volunteers, launched Hands On! Kiwoko 2010 to gatherings of Sunday School teachers and clergy across Ireland in January and February. Over 180 people came along to find out more about the Annual Project this year. Currently there are 75 Parishes across Ireland that are taking part in Hands On! Kiwoko 2010 – a fantastic response! Click here to see how two parishes took up the project.

Talking about this year’s project, Julie tells shares:

“One of the highlights in the year is getting out and about in Ireland meeting the people who make the project come alive in their Sunday Schools and Churches. So I am delighted that soI am delighted that so many parishes have got involved in the project. With so many people taking part, we hope that we can raise funds to support the children’s ward of the hospital and make a real difference, as well as helping children and young people to learn more about this amazing place.”

Through Hands On! Kiwoko 2010 parishes and Sunday Schools can support the work of Kiwoko Hospital, through prayer and financial support. The project hopes to raise £30,000/€33,000 for the hospital, and in particular the children’s ward, helping them to provide medical care that many children would not otherwise be able to afford – giving the children of Uganda a helping hand.
