Hello!

My name’s Helen and I’m part of Ekisa 2010! Back in February when I first heard of the team August seemed so far away, but now its fast approaching and I can start to imagine that one day soon I’ll be on my way to Uganda! I’m really looking forward to seeing Kiwoko for myself and meeting the children whom I’ve heard so much about.

The past few weeks have been busy as we meet together as a team to get to know each other better and to start to plan the children’s programme and dream about what God can do this summer. It’s a real challenge planning a programme for children we’ve never met in a country we’ve never been to, but thankfully Gods in control and knows each of the children inside out and can guide us in our preparations.

We’ve also been busy fundraising! Myself, Kirsten, Aimee and Amy all attend Knockbreda Parish so we’re fundraising together which is great! Yesterday we had a parish lunch after church which raised over £1000! We’ve been so overwhelmed by the number of people who have gone out of their way to offer their support whether financially, prayerfully or practically.

We’re now starting to plan our next fundraiser, a family coffee morning on 26th June, and in the meantime we’re continuing to collect old clothes, curtains and bedding. For every 100kg we collect there’s a company that will give us £50… every little helps!

When I signed up for the team I hoped that I would be able to help in some small way. But already I’m realising that I’m learning much more than I could ever hope to give. I’m learning to trust God more and more, and relax in the knowledge that He’s in control, that He’ll be with us in Uganda just as He’s with us now.

“The Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1v9)
