At the end of July, the following correspondence was sent to members, supporters, link parishes and friends of CMS Ireland from Mr Clifford McSpadden, chairman of the CMS Ireland Board of Trustees, announcing the appointment of a new Mission Director for the Society:

“On behalf of the Board, I am delighted to announce that Ronnie Briggs has been appointed to the role of Mission Director for CMS Ireland.

“Ronnie will be well known to our members and supporters. In addition to the many years that he, Maggie and their children have spent serving alongside our partners in Kenya, Ronnie has worked in various roles within the staff team. He brings with him a wealth of experience of the Global Church, the Church in Ireland and of the unfolding story of CMS Ireland. But of even more importance are Ronnie’s love for God and his passion for mission. These qualities, along with a pastoral heart, will provide the context for his leadership of the Society.

“As a Board, we are hugely excited by this appointment and, having shared the news with the staff team, I know that they are delighted and are really looking forward to working with Ronnie.

“The news has also been well received by our partners in Kajiado Diocese, Kenya. They are understandably sad that Ronnie and Maggie will be leaving them but they have expressed their delight that Ronnie will be serving the Church in a wider capacity. Bishop Jeremiah Taama writes:

“If Kajiado can give something to CMSI and indeed to the Church, then we are proud that Ronnie and Maggie go to the office as our gift to the wider Church. CMS Ireland is our society and we are proud of it. The success of it is our success and it is also our duty to support it in whichever way we can.”

“Ronnie will take up his new role on 8th November 2010. This will allow him and Maggie time to make an appropriate departure from Kenya and to resettle back into life in Ireland.

“Brian Lavery will continue to fulfill the role of Acting Director of Mission until the 8th November. Please continue to pray for Brian and the team over the coming months. With next month’s inMission, I hope to provide further details of how this restructuring process continues to take shape, as we seek to respond to the challenges and opportunities that lie before us.

“In the meantime, please join us in thanking God for this important appointment, and pray that God would bless Ronnie, his family and our partners in Kajiado during this period of transition.”

This is significant and happy news for the Society, and we thank all those who have sent kind messages of support to us, and to Ronnie and Maggie, regarding this appointment. We also thank you for your continued prayerful support for CMS Ireland throughout the appointment process and trust you will rejoice with us at this news.
