In CMS Ireland, our activities tend to take shape around the academic year (September to July). As we embark on a new year for the Society, we reflect back over a year in mission and share with you a brief summary of the work of CMS Ireland in 2009/10.

CMS Ireland exists to help the Church in Ireland as it engages in God’s mission. Over the past year, God has given us many opportunities to serve Him and support his Church in three areas: supporting the Global Church, resourcing the Church in Ireland and releasing individuals in mission service.

Please join with us in rejoicing in how God has provided, how He has opened doors, and how He has used the Society for His will and purposes.

Supporting the Global Church

CMS Ireland currently works with 28 Global Partners in 11 countries in Africa and Asia. Thanks to prayerful and financial support from over 130 Link Parishes and many individuals in Ireland, along with funding from donor agencies, we have supported numerous mission activities of the Global Church, including:

- Primary healthcare provision in Southern Sudan
- Church-planting and discipleship programmes in Nepal
- Theological training in Kenya
- School building and teacher training in Burundi
- Agricultural initiatives in Rwanda

Since 1st November 2009, we have spent €2.3 million on supporting the work of our Global Partners. This includes the funding of 11 CMS Ireland Mission Partners, who provide hugely valuable support to our Global Partners in Uganda, Kenya, Nepal and Burundi.

Resourcing the Church in Ireland

Our staff, Mission Partners and volunteers have spoken at over 130 church services and events throughout Ireland, including 14 Roadshow events. (To book a speaker, please contact our offices.) We facilitated visits to Ireland for a META team from Kenya, two African Bishops and three Mission Partners on Home Assignment.

This year’s Annual Project, Hands On! Kiwoko was used by 78 Parishes, helping to engage thousands of children across Ireland.

Through the inMission magazine, the Prayer Diary and regular Link Letters we shared stories and prayer requests from all of our Global Partners and Mission Personnel. You can sign up to receive these publications by clicking here.

Mission Partners, STEP Volunteers and METAs have also published regular blogs. You can sign up to receive prayer, event and blog updates by clicking on the link.

We have continued to develop Discover, our new mission education resource, which is due to launch in November in Belfast and Dublin. Click on the links for more details.

Releasing Individuals

In 2009/10, 51 individuals took part in five Mission Experience Teams Abroad (‘METAs’) to Nepal, Sudan (two teams), Uganda and Rwanda. Our staff met with 16 people who were exploring potential mission service overseas. Three new Mission Partners went through the process of application and selection and are now studying for a term at Belfast Bible College.

Over 40 people volunteered with the Society in Ireland, working in the offices to facilitate mailings, helping to run events, leading METAs, catering and speaking on behalf of the Society
