Time to go!

I cannot believe our leaving date has come. It has been a 17 month process to get us to this point and therefore it has always seemed so far away, and yet now it’s here. We leave Northern Ireland on Wednesday 12th January, and arrive in Uganda on Thursday 13th.

Needless to say the nerves are settling in. Will we be able to fulfil our roles? Will we adjust to the Ugandan lifestyle? Will we get homesick? Will we get physically sick? Lots to pray for!

Yet at the same time, there is a great peace in knowing we are heading where God wants us to be. A friend shared with us recently that the safest place in the world to be is in God’s will. How true! If we believe His plans are higher than ours, that He is the omniscient one, then surely the wisest decision we can make is to follow Him and not what we and the world considers safe.

In every step of our process in applying and preparing to serve as mission partners, God has clearly led the way. From the folks at Kiwoko deciding they needed an engineer at the exact time that Paul was telling me he believed we should go to Uganda – to his company announcing redundancies just as Paul was about to hand in his notice.

Although we know that being in God’s will does not ensure that the next 2 ½ years will be easy, we can be sure that God will be with us through every difficulty, sickness, and battle. He will be comforting us, reassuring us, guiding us and teaching us, as he promised;

But now, listen to the LORD who created you.
O Israel, the one who formed you says,
“Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you.
I have called you by name; you are mine.
2 When you go through deep waters,
I will be with you.
When you go through rivers of difficulty,
you will not drown.
When you walk through the fire of oppression,
you will not be burned up;
the flames will not consume you.
3 For I am the LORD, your God,
the Holy One of Israel, your Saviour.” Isaiah 43 v1-3

We are getting commissioned on Sunday 9th at Hamilton Road Baptist Church in Bangor at 6.30pm. If you can make it, we’d love to see you there.
