For the past two and a half years, we have been keeping chickens at Jericho (the name of our compound.) Our first cock, James, was a real gentleman and would call his subjects when food was to be found, would let the small chicks go first if they were there and would warn in case of danger.

Edward the Confessor, King of Jericho, ruler of the Mvara chicken-hood lost his last war with diarrhoea. He was a nice king to see but his rule was short (about 3 months). He has joined his predecessors John “the chicken” and James “the gentleman” in the after-life for Cocks.

Initially, I (Aart), wanted to name them (the cocks) after the apostles but later found it more appropriate to name them after the English kings. I sincerely hope not to have offended anyone.
