Purple is my favourite colour

Yei has provided a week of experiences that will stay with me the rest of my life: extreme heat, dusty roads, howling dogs, and all night music! But above all I will remember the beautiful people. How can a people who have experienced the atrocities of a bitter and bloody war be so friendly, generous and joyful? Life is what it is. God is good and He is their provider.

It has been great working with this team from the Connor Diocese. Our leader, General Stumpy (so called after tripping over a tree stump late at night and feigning injury – work the general bit out for yourself!) provided us with many hilarious moments. Someone from home told him to wash his memory cards regularly with his undies and he took their advice. He’s been trying to dry the cards ever since! His passion for Christmas cake led him into the murky world of bribery and corruption – CMSI may need and internal inquiry! Anyway, that’s enough about David.

I managed to find myself in a bit of bother with Bishop Alan – my purple linen shirt clashed terribly with episcopal purple and set a very poor tone during official engagements. He wouldn’t believe my favourite colour was purple and thought I was angling for promotion! His gift of a mirror with a purple border was warmly received and, for the first time in a week, I have managed to shave without slicing off another piece of my ear!

It’s been a great pleasure working with such a caring and gifted team – we have learnt much about the grace and provision of a loving God. David has looked out for us and been a real star.
Would I come again? Try stopping me!
