As the team begin the second week of activities we feel our time here in Arua is passing so quickly. This morning shortly after 7am we joined Mothers’ Union members for their weekly Monday morning prayer meeting. In spite of the early start their readiness and willingness to worship and pray was tangible. Rev Carmen was invited to share from God’s word. She chose the story of Jesus’ anointing at Bethany by the woman with the jar of perfume, illustrating our need to come to the feet of Jesus who then enables us to arise new creations through Him. Luke ch 7 v 36-50.

Midmorning we travelled to Awindiri parish where again we were greeted and welcomed with singing and dancing by Mothers’ Union members followed by Communion. Canon Doris Penina is their rector, whom many of our members may remember when she visited Derry and Raphoe 25 years ago.

Anne shared some wonderful memories with her about her time in Strabane. She spoke at length of her visit to the Diocese at that time and how she was so impressed with the work of Derry and Raphoe Mothers’ Union, that following her return to Uganda she founded the present day vibrant and growing Mothers’ Union. Cannon Doris sends greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to Bishop Ken and to all our members.

Following our lunch, eaten African style that is without cutlery, we travelled to a local school where the pad making project also takes place. We met with a class of teenage student girls. Rev. Alice talked with the girls encouraging them to remember that each of them is very precious and beautiful in God’s sight and instilling in them how important to keep biblical moral standards.

It was very apparent the respect and admiration that the girls had for Rev Alice and the gift that God has empowered her with to enable her to talk so freely on a very sensitive subject. God teaches us in Proverbs 4:23 ‘Above all else, guard your heart as it is the wellspring of your life.’
