The Shyogwe Partnership Has Grown Up

Last week, I enjoyed a great time of fellowship with the team in Shyogwe Diocese, the first stop on my current visit to Rwanda and Burundi. I was welcomed in true Rwandan style with tea, fruit and a good catch up.

As we reminisced together about previous visits to Shyogwe and Ireland, it became clear just how much we have shared together and learnt from each other throughout our partnership so far. The value of being face to face in this growing relationship was evident, and so it brought great excitement amongst us as we chatted about plans for the team preparing to visit this summer.

While Shyogwe has received much support from Ireland both in prayer and finance, it is the deepening relationship that is having the greatest impact. From time to time we hear a story about an individual or group who has been a part of one of the various projects supported through our partnership with the diocese. It is these life transforming stories that spur us on to keep working hard both in Ireland and Rwanda, committing together to see more of God’s Kingdom in this small patch in the land of a thousand hills.

The Shyogwe Partnership is just seven years old, but as our friend Viateur reminded us, it is already all grown up. As we concluded our time together he remarked, with great joy, “the partnership has grown up and it is more than partnership, it has reached a stage of friendship in mission together. Glory be to God.”

I look forward to seeing all that is to come from this budding friendship in the future, both for the church in Ireland and the Diocese of Shyogwe. Thank you for journeying with us as we grow up in partnership together.
