We have arrived in Bukavu! Ann and I flew out from Dublin last Sunday evening to Addis Ababa arriving in the early hours of Monday morning. Linda met us there as she was already in Ethiopia on a partner visit with CMSI. We then left Addis Ababa and flew to Goma where we stayed in a guest house.

On Tuesday morning we took the ferry to Bukavu which took four hours and Bishop Bahati met us there and took us to his home which is located within a compound in Bukavu. I am staying with David and Pru Boyd who are working as missionaries through CMS Australia. Ann and Linda are staying in the compound guest house.

On Tuesday afternoon Bishop Bahati and his wife took us to see a family who had been bereaved. The lady’s husband had died the previous day and had been buried that morning. Their eldest daughter had died one week earlier in childbirth having given birth to her eighth child. The family home was full of women both inside and out and we got to meet the new born baby boy and some of the siblings.

We all felt privileged to visit the family who had been bereaved twice in the space of one week and to be there to comfort them. We found this visit to be a very humbling experience. We ask you to pray along with us for this family that they may know and feel God’s presence in the days that lie ahead.
