On Saturday 1st April, at Shine – CMSI’s Annual Members’ Day in Swords – we launched our new Strategic Plan for 2017-2022.

The Shine event saw CMSI members join together with the staff team and special guests for a programme of worship, stories and updates, as well as a short presentation of the strategic plan, which takes effect from September.

The guests included two global visitors from CMSI’s partners in Kenya – The Rev Canon Sammy Wainaina, Provost of All Saints’ Cathedral, Nairobi and Louise Githere from the cathedral’s Urban Development Programme. We also heard an update from Ronnie and Maggie Briggs, who are currently on Home Assignment from Mission Partner service in Kajiado Diocese, Kenya.

The Strategic Plan, entitled ‘Connect, Equip, Transform’, will shape CMSI’s work over the next five years. In presenting the plan, CMSI’s Mission Director, Jenny Smyth, used the analogy of a trellis that provides structure and stability for sweet pea flowers to flourish and grow…

After a while, such is the extent of the growth, you barely notice the trellis – all you see are the flowers. We pray that this strategic plan will promote growth and fruitfulness, and that the focus will be on the outcomes of transformed lives and communities.

CMSI’s Patron, Archbishop Dr Richard Clarke, helped to launch the plan. In doing so, he reflected on the importance of such ‘kingdom work’, both outside and inside the Church and he shared some thoughts on the Five Marks of Mission, which form part of the background to the plan.

Copies of the strategic plan booklet are available on request from CMSI’s Belfast office. We also hope to make electronic copies available after Easter.
