1. Burundi
Sometimes referred to as ‘the heart of Africa', due to it’s distinctive shape and central location, Burundi is one of the world's poorest countries - now emerging from more than 40 years of ethnic conflict. CMS Ireland supports the local church: as it trains and disciples leaders who will make a difference in their communities; and in its efforts to rehabilitate schools destroyed during the civil war.

CMS Ireland works in partnership three dioceses to help the Church find practical responses to the challenges facing its people. Income generation, HIV/AIDS education and the construction of schools and clinics are among recent priorities.

3. Egypt
Set in the Northeast corner of Africa, Egypt is a country where: the ancient meets the modern; where Christianity meets Islam; and where the challenges of working with refugees need to be faced head-on. CMS Ireland works with the Diocese of Egypt as it reaches out to a growing refugee community and seeks to provide practical responses to the problems created by overcrowding and poverty.

5. Ireland
For many years Ireland has primarily been the support base for CMS Ireland's work in other parts of the world. However a commitment to partnership and an embracing of Ireland as a mission region, in its own right, are beginning to change the picture. CMS Ireland is working to empower and equip the local church for global and local mission.

6. Kenya
One of the most culturally diverse countries in East Africa, Kenya is home to some of CMS Ireland's longest-standing partnerships. Despite a reputation as one of the most stable countries in the region Kenya has seen recent ethnic violence, drought and famine have a significant impact on its people. CMS Ireland works with the Church in Nairobi and Kajiado to support leadership training, evangelism and sustainable development programmes.

7. Nepal
Despite remaining outside the focus of mainstream global news coverage, Nepal has a degree of familiarity for many Christians in Ireland. There has been a strong link between Nepal and the Church in Ireland for over fifty years and CMS Ireland has played an important part in this relationship. Over the decades, a number of Irish CMS Mission Partners have spent happy and fruitful years living and working in Nepal. This special relationship continues to flourish today.

8. Romania
Romania has long been one of Europe's poorest and least developed countries. Crippling poverty, an aging population and dealing with the re-integration of orphans into mainstream society are just some of the issues facing the Christian community in Romania. CMS Ireland partners with the local church to demonstrate the love of Christ, in action, through social care projects in Bucharest and Brasov.

9. Rwanda
Sandwiched between the countries of DR Congo, Uganda, Tanzania and Burundi, Rwanda, lies at the centre of the Mid-Africa region. The genocide of 1994 saw 800,000 people massacred in 100 days and the aftermath of this has shaped the Church's ministry and mission. CMS Ireland partners with the local church - supporting youth work, poverty alleviation and building programmes.

10. Sudan
Located in North Africa, it is often commented that Sudan is really two countries in one. Broadly speaking, the North is Islamic, whilst the South has been shaped by Christian missionary endeavours. The largest country in Africa, Sudan is emerging from the conflicts that have dominated Sudanese life since independence from the UK in 1956. CMS Ireland has a long history of standing with the Anglican Church in Southern Sudan, which has often suffered oppression and persecution.

A country of great natural beauty and splendour Zambia is a land marked by contrast - with significant divides between rich and poor, urban and rural, developed and underdeveloped plain to see. CMS Ireland has been in partnership with the Church in Zambia since 1995 and today that link focuses primarily on leadership training and poverty alleviation programmes.
