Final day in Kayole

July 6, 2019

It was with heavy hearts this morning that we drove to Kayole for our final visit.

Lucy started off our meeting by rallying the young women, telling them that the sky was their only limit, that they needed to dream of bigger and better things in order to succeed and improve their lives. Louise reinforced this, she told the ladies that their vision was to enable girls to stay in school, continue their education and to succeed in their exams. She told them that their potential market was huge and reiterated over and over again that the dignity kits they produce need to be of the highest quality so they will sell. To that end, they need to take on board everything they have learnt this week and put it into practice to produce the highest quality of kits.

Taboos and embarrassment have all been tackled this week. There has been a lot of talk about how wonderful our female bodies are, the Bible tells us that “we are fearfully and wonderfully made”. Louise reinforced this, instructing the girls not to hide away when they menstruate, that their periods are totally normal and natural and that without them we wouldn’t be able to reproduce. She went on to say that we were all made by God and how special each and every one of us are.
