Kondoa Diocese
Tanzania
CMS Ireland launched a partnership with the diocese of Kondoa, Tanzania in 2024. Kondoa is a missionary diocese led by Bishop Given Gaula. Kondoa town, once a place of rest for the slave caravans, today has a population which is 90% Muslim. The diocese is largely rural and serves people of many ethnicities and languages. Over recent years the church has grown, especially among women and Maasai communities.

Kondoa Bible College runs church leadership courses and supports students in literacy and English. The focus is on evangelism and pastoral care as well as a Women’s Empowerment course offering practical skills. There is a strong Mothers’ Union with groups across the diocese.

A new cathedral was dedicated recently and efforts are underway to construct purpose built diocesan offices. The church runs a primary school and is developing a secondary school. Water is a big challenge in rural communities so water projects are also supported.

Bishop Given says,
"Our pastors visit house to house to teach from the word of God and offer prayers for healing explaining that it is not us who heal, but Jesus. If we are not evangelists, why are we here?"
