Diocese of Northern Zambia

Zambia

CMS Ireland’s relationship with the Diocese of Northern Zambia (under the leadership of Rt Rev John Kafwanka) evolved into a ‘Friendship Diocese’ in 2020, with the focus being on supporting leadership training in St John’s Anglican Seminary, Kitwe. St John’s is the only seminary in the whole of Zambia, where all 5 Anglican dioceses send their students for training.

St John's Anglican Seminary has a strong sense of mission, seeking to educate and equip men and women for ordained ministry.  Their emphasis is two-fold:

1. Academic Theological Training
2. Spiritual Formation (helping to shape the lives and characters of the students so that they grow into leaders who can impact the wider community)

The Seminary is now under the leadership of

The Rev Canon Stephen Chibubi (Dean of Studies), The Rev Canon Francis Mwansa (Rector) and The Rev Canon Leonard Tembo (Lecturer)

CMSI’s historical links with the Seminary are traced back to the work of Canon John Kanyikwa, who served as a lecturer and Principal of the college during the 1990s. This work was continued by CMSI Mission Partners Keith and Lyn Scott, who served in Zambia for over 10 years.
