UDP

Kenya

The Urban Development Programme (UDP) of All Saints Cathedral church, Nairobi, was started in 1991 in order to look after 350 families, who were displaced from their homes in slum demolitions. CMSI has been involved with UDP since 1992.

Today the programme works with the local community to improve health and sanitation, encourage education and nurture income generating activities. Through these things the Church is seeking to make the love of Christ visible at the heart of a local community. CMSI has helped support many UDP initiatives, including water provision, nursery and primary education, sanitation, community health education.

Through these programmes and areas of support the UDP looks to make the love of Christ visible and tangible at the heart of a local community.

Louise Githire acts as UDP Coordinator. The programme also receives valuable support from CMSI Mission Associate, Isabelle Prondzynski.

Isabelle writes,

“We really value the personal relationships between the communities, the Cathedral staff, the CMSI staff, the link churches and other supporters in Ireland – and we hope for the continuation of these relationships in the future.”
