Matana Diocese,

Burundi

As with CMSI’s other Global Partner in Burundi, Gitega Diocese, the Church in Matana plays a key role in helping to provide hope, healing and rebuilding following years of conflict.

Matana is the home of the Provincial Theological Institute where students are trained for ordination, and also a Bible School for training Church Workers (called Catechists). Theological Education was supported by CMSI’s Annual Project (Children’s Resource) in 2011, under the title ‘Living Stones: Building Church in Burundi.’

The current priorities of Matana Diocese include:

• Preaching the Word of God, focusing on the five marks of mission of the Anglican Church

• Training church leaders who will continue mission work

• Raising people’s awareness on peace and reconciliation

• Building churches and schools
