Bishops' Appeal Supports Bikes in Burundi

You've probably heard the phrase 'not fit for purpose' used to describe faulty goods that aren't up to the task they were intended for. Well that's what our partners in Gitega Diocese, Burundi desribed their bicycles as - 'not fit for purpose' on the rural roads and difficult terrain.

Without the right equipment, communicating and providing leadership was becoming more challenging due to the geography and roads in Gitega Diocese. Our partners approached CMSI to see what could be done to improve the situation. CMSI applied to the Church Of Ireland Bishops' Appeal for the funding of new motorbikes and helmets for four Archdeacons. The funding was granted in March 2019 and by May, all four motorbikes had been purchased.

The archdeacons receiving the motorbikes are Rev Gilbert Ndayongeje of Itaba, Rev Innocent Niyonkuru of Gitega, Rev Anseleme Munyogogo of Nyankand and Rev Nicolas Nyandwi of Ruyigi. Different types of motorbikes were purchased to cater for the different geographical demands of the four areas.

Bishop Aime Joseph of Gitega writes,

"We are thankful to God that Archdeacons in the Diocese of Gitega can easily make their pastoral visits to praishes after they got new motorbikes funded by Bishops' Appeal through CMSI. Please pray that this means of transport contrtibute to the extension of the Kingdom of God in Gitega and Ruyigi region. We expect much fruit."
