An update from The Quills

Following a fruitful week of fellowship and teaching at the New Wine Conference in Sligo, Andrew and Joanne share key updates on their home assignment, critical prayer requests for South Sudan, and upcoming travels in Scotland. From encouraging developments in local Community Health Empowerment (CHE) training to urgent updates regarding drought and economic challenges in Ibba, here is a look at what God is doing and how you can stand with the Quills in prayer.

Hi everyone,

We had a fantastic time at the New Wine Conference in Sligo! It was packed with inspiring teaching, great fellowship, and wonderful opportunities to reconnect with old friends and make new ones across Ireland. Our two afternoon seminars were well received, and we were encouraged to see several people express interest in short-term missions.Pray that conference attendees would seek a deeper walk with the Lord and catch a global vision for mission.

Ibba & CHE Ministry Update

• Training of Trainers (Week 3) Starting Monday, July 27th: Canon Emmanuel will facilitate Week 3 of the Training of Trainers in Manikakara Archdeaconry. Once completed, these Community Health Evangelism (CHE) trainers will be equipped to train local committees.

  Canon Emmanuel shared an encouraging report: homes visited by CHE volunteers in Central Archdeaconry have already led to increased church attendance! We pray that as this ministry expands, it continues to transform lives—both physically (reducing preventable diseases) and spiritually.

  Pray for God’s guidance for Canon Emmanuel as he leads the training, and for safe travel for everyone attending. Pray also that the trainers gain confidence and feel a strong sense of God’s presence throughout the week.

• Ibba has suffered from severe lack of rain over the past two months, forcing many farmers to replant failed crops. Compounding the situation, elephants have strayed from their normal habitat to within a kilometre of Manikakara, destroying the few crops that managed to grow. Canon Emmanuel fears widespread hunger if conditions don't improve.

  Pray for sufficient rainfall and that the elephants move safely back to their usual habitat.

• National Tensions & Economic Strain Tensions remain high across South Sudan, and the economy continues to deteriorate as the South Sudanese Pound drops to unprecedented lows. Pray for peace in South Sudan and for wisdom for leaders navigating the economic crisis.

Looking Ahead

Last Sunday, we preached and shared at Eyemouth Baptist Church in South East Scotland (Joanne’s parents' church). Afterward, we’ll be taking a few weeks to rest and spend quality time with family and friends in Scotland. Pray that our time at Eyemouth Baptist last Sunday will bear fruit for the Kingdom. Pray also for rest, safety, and refreshment during our time in Scotland.
