Shalom Reconciliation Ministries, Karamoja, Uganda

Shalom founder Rainbow Mike writes:

‘Our evening youth soccer program at Shalom Home has become far more than a game — it is ministry in motion. I truly treasure the time I spend with these boys. Each practice is an open door the Lord has given us to share the Gospel, disciple young hearts toward Christ, and intentionally build leadership that will serve them for life. My son Newman is doing home school but this has been a great way for him to keep up with his friends at Shalom home and some of the boys who come from the community.

There is something deeply moving about watching them play. They run with joy, laugh freely, and compete with so much passion that I am often left chasing the ball behind them — they are almost always faster! Their energy fills the field, and their love for the game reminds me of the childlike joy Scripture speaks about. In those moments, friendships grow, and healing and confidence growing in them.

After long and demanding workdays, these evenings with these boys at Shalom home are so refreshing. The dust, the noise, the cheering, and even the playful arguments over goals become a kind of worship — a reminder that ministry is not only from a pulpit but lived out in everyday relationships. We are witnessing the Lord shape young leaders, and it is emotional to see how sport becomes a pathway for healing, belonging, and hope.

Thank you for walking with us in this journey. Your support makes it possible for these boys to experience love, mentorship, and the message of Christ in a place where they can run, play, and grow into the men God is calling them to.’

CMS Ireland is privileged to partner with Mike and Denise Rainbow and the inspiring team at Shalom who are faithfully ministering in this remote corner of Uganda. A corner that has been deeply impacted by insecurity, climate and social change leading to communities under stress. Shalom offers practical help, a loving community and careful mentoring for many young people who have found themselves homeless.
