Finding new opportunities

The gift of a large legacy some years ago has enabled CMSI to send support to some small Christian organisations working with children. One such is Tentmakers based in rural Uganda.

Moses contacted us requesting support to develop the small school he had founded in his home village as a practical expression of the ministry of the local church. It's a day school where children would learn about the Christian faith and receive quality education. With the grant Moses constructed classrooms, a rain water collection system, purchased educational materials and Bibles for the children.

Moses’ desire to serve God and be a voice of hope in his local community is inspiring.

Uganda has been impacted by the global pandemic. The government has imposed very strict measures of an evening curfew, no private vehicles on the roads, social distancing, closing of shops and so on. Police enforcement can be severe.

Tentmakers school had to close and people can no longer gather in the church for prayer and worship. I was wondering how Moses and his community were managing. This is the message he sent:

Greetings in the name of our faithful Saviour Jesus Christ.

We hope and pray that you are doing well amidst the terrible era of the ongoing pandemic. We keep being thankful for the gift of life and His Holy Spirit to strengthen us at every time we feel taken away by what goes on around us. We pray for God’s protection to the very end of it all in Jesus’ name.

It is a time of feeling very lonely but we are not alone. Just as when Daniel and his friends were in the fiery furnace a fourth person appeared and protected them. God was watching over Daniel. The Lord has led me to use the church loudspeaker to share His goodness and pray together - but from our houses since congregations have been banned. I preach, pray and remind our people that although we seem lonely but we are not alone. God has not abandoned us, He is with us through our troubles.

We keep you all in our daily prayers.

Moses has not been deterred; he has found a new way to reach people with a message of comfort and hope. God specialises in redeeming people and situations. He wants us to play our part in His great redemption story just where we are.

‘Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?’

[Isaiah 43:19]
