Ebola in DR Congo; please pray

Ebola outbreak Earlier this week, we received the following message from Bishop Isesomo (North Kivu Diocese, DR Congo):

“There is another sad situation which has arisen in our diocese and particularly in Beni area: it is Ebola. Some people have died from it. We are praying so that God may stop it.”

CMSI has a long partnership with North Kivu; our most recent partner visit was just last year. In 2015, the CMSI Children’s Resource, Little Lights, focused on the diocesan children’s home project, which aims to care for children orphaned by ongoing local insecurities and the HIV epidemic.

This morning we heard from Mama Dorcas Mbambu who is the founder and ‘mother’ of the children’s home (front right in the picture below). Some of you will have heard her story at Ignite last year. Speaking of Ebola she says:

“The disease began 83km from Butembo, then 53km away from here. Today we have three cases in Butembo, and we have new cases coming from Beni.

"We ask for assistance and prayer for this horrible, highly contagious disease.”

Please pray

Eastern DR Congo is already enmeshed in a complicated humanitarian crisis. Our partners work in communities which are struggling to escape from the impact of war and all its long term implications.

We ask that you and your church commit to pray for DR Congo in the coming days and weeks. Specifically pray for Bishop Isesomo as he leads North Kivu Diocese from its headquarters in Butembo. Also pray for God’s protection over the Diocesan Children’s Home family.
