Bishop Hassan - coming to faith in Christ
Bishop Hassan Osman James is one of CMS Ireland’s local mission partners living and ministering in the Nuba Mountains in Sudan. This area is one of the contested spaces in Sudan, caught up in intense conflict on a daily basis. Bishop Hassan has chosen to stay with his people, despite the high level of risk. He strongly believes he must stay to serve as God’s hands and feet on the ground in Sudan. During a brief visit to Ireland in November 2025, he spent some time in the Belf

Beyond the Breaking Point: recovering strength through sharing and healing
Joanne continues to facilitate weekly Trauma Healing training in Ibba, South Sudan. The Bible-based sessions help participants to reflect on their experiences and begin the long, slow process of healing some of the brokenness they have identified. After the completion of a recent course at Bishop Levi College, yassin Hassan Idriss shared some feedback. "My name is yassin Hassan Idriss, and I come from a country torn apart by conflict and war. Hello old friend. It's like you never left.
This visit has been 14 years in the making for me. God has definitely had a say, and a plan for why this team, at this time, has come together, grown in love, trust and fellowship, and arrived safely in Nepal in 2025. Between 2011 and now, Nepal suffered a devastating earthquake in 2015 and a disastrous impact

Fire cannot be quenched with fire: only water can make a difference
During her recent visit to Uganda, Jenny was able to meet with Bishop Hassan, one of our Local Mission Partners living in the Nuba Mountains area in Sudan. The chance to be together in person helped deepen relationships and further understandings of the complex situation in Sudan. Whilst there, the Sudanese bishops present were able to meet for a retreat together. The aim of the retreat was to pray, study God’s Word, and encourage each other. And more importantly, “to pray fo

Forced to walk more slowly still
When we arrived in Kathmandu and had our first team discussion, one of the team reminded us about the commissioning service and the importance of walking slowly. I thought that this was what I was doing, but there were other plans in store. Walking from the Guesthouse to SDSS on the first morning I stepped off a high kerb (with a foot and a half drop), went over on my ankle and fell over. I was quickly back on my feet, and although it was sore was okay to carry on. We arri

Walk slowly
After a tiring 24-hour journey from Dublin to Kathmandu, stopping off in Heathrow and Dubai, the team of 8 arrived in Tribuvan airport to encounter what was to be the first of many challenges to our habitually fast-paced way of doing things…..queuing for visas. Whilst we had thought we’d been smart by applying for these online before setting out, we discovered that somehow the Electronic Travel Authorization forms we’d all printed out, complete with ID photo, were not valid,
