Today marks the beginning of Thy Kingdom Come, a global prayer movement that takes place each year between Ascension Day and Pentecost Sunday.
After Jesus ascended to heaven, his friends and followers gathered in Jerusalem to pray together and to wait on the promised Holy Spirit. For many Christians around the world, these 11 days have become a time of prayerful devotion, of inviting God's Spirit to come anew and to change lives.
Thy Kingdom Come began in 2016 with an invitation to the Church of England from the Archbishops of Canterbury and York. Since then, the initiative has spread to at least 114 countries and 65 denominations around the world. A dedicated website provides information and resources and it includes the following:
It is hoped that everyone who takes part will:
- Deepen their relationship with Jesus Christ
- Pray for God’s spirit to work in the lives of those they know
- Come to realise that every aspect of their life is the stuff of prayer
During these 11 days, the CMSI staff will be taking part in Thy Kingdom Come, as we join with brothers and sisters across the world, praying for the Holy Spirit to come in power and bring people into a transforming relationship with Jesus. This morning, we watched a great video clip about the Kingdom Of God.
CMSI is inviting its friends and supporters to join in with the initiative as together we pray:
Your Kingdom Come
Your Will be done
On earth as in heaven.
